Ted Chang

Ted has been in Hong Kong for a total of more than 15 years and has worked in the telecommunications and private equity sectors as an attorney, group managing director and entrepreneur. He has also worked with various manufacturing, FMCG and hospitality projects, heading up legal and compliance functions.
Ted began his career in New York City and Hong Kong as an associate with the large law firms of Mudge Rose (Richard Nixon's old firm) and Baker & McKenzie before becoming Asia regional counsel for one of Motorola's divisions and then joining a series of start-up companies. He was a vice president in the legal/compliance group at Goldman Sachs in New York where he headed the Goldman Sachs Group position reporting group as liaison to the SEC and all global regulatory agencies on various securities position reporting issues. Ted also was for nearly a decade the group general counsel for a Hong Kong-based TMT private equity firm as well as the senior legal counsel and acting compliance MIC for a hedge/PE fund based in Hong Kong with global investment portfolios.
Ted has worked extensively with companies and businesses of all shapes and sizes in the commercial/corporate space for multiple industries, including enterprises in technology, manufacturing, FMCG and services. He brings to clients and colleagues more than 20 years of professional life in the global business and finance, legal and corporate development, governance and structuring worlds. Fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese, German and English, he holds a dual Bachelor of Arts degree from Vassar College, New York, in English and Political Science, and a Masters Degree in International Economics from Colombia University, New York. Ted studied law at Boston College Law School and Columbia University School of Law, where he was also awarded a one-year post-JD fellowship (full scholarship and stipend) at the China University of Political Science and Law in Beijing studying the PRC Foreign Invested Joint Venture Code. Ted is a member of the New York State bar in good standing and a registered foreign lawyer with the Hong Kong Bar Association.
